Our first season in the Premier League was lit up by a player who many are calling the best to wear the Luton shirt in the form of Ross Barkley. The midfielder signed on a free transfer ahead of the start of the season and after a month or so where he needed to build up his fitness, he soon became a key man in the centre of the park as the Hatters looked to go about achieving another campaign in the Premier League. They came up short in that aim but Barkley lit up matches throughout the season with his comfort on the ball, willingness to take risks and all-round quality that he showed against some of the best players in the world soon making him incredibly popular with the Town faithful.
The 30-year-old made such a huge impression in his debut season at Kenilworth Road that the longer the campaign went on there were growing calls on him receiving a return to the England setup. Sadly for the classy midfielder, Gareth Southgate never listened but what the England manager was happy to ignore, the Town fans lapped up the quality on show from Barkley. Barkley featured 32 times, scoring five goals and providing four assists, statistics that ensured he was named the 2023-24 player of the season.
