Luton Town Supporters’ Trust is a Co-operative and Mutual Benefit Society which acts as the supporters’ trust, a democratic co-operative, for fans of Luton Town FC.
June 2003
The Luton Town Supporters’ Trust, at that time known as Trust in Luton, was formed as TIL 2003 Limited. It was created as a movement to pull together to force rogue owner John Gurney out of the club. This was achieved in the summer of 2003 when the Trust acquired shares in Hatters Holdings which owned a debenture for about £11 million which the Trust called in. John Gurney could not pay so Barry Ward was brought in by the Trust as Administrative Receiver.
December 2003
The Trust were then involved in the deal for Bill Tomlins and his consortium to take charge of the club, where they were rewarded with a place on the club’s board. The club remained in Administrative Receivership until the end of the season.
June 2005
Trust successfully led calls for the cancellation of a planned friendly match between Luton Town and MK Dons as it went against what the Trust stands for.
October 2007
It became clear that new owner David Pinkney had no interest in the future of the club and cancelled the place on the board that Trust in Luton held.
November 2007
The club then went into administrative receivership, to be bought out by the fan-led 2020 consortium, headed up by Gary Sweet, the man who was pivotal in the foundation of the Trust. A deal was then done between the football club and the Trust for the Trust to have 50,000 shares in the football club, ensuring a much stronger fan representation than had been seen before.
March 2014
The club agreed to hand their image rights to the Trust, which meant that the club crest, kit colours, club name, nickname and mascots cannot be changed without the required consent from LTST.
