As you will probably have seen, our U21 team recently took on Burnley in the first match of this season’s Premier League Cup.
While Burnley deserved their 4-1 victory, there was much to be encouraged by for the remaining games in the competition, so please keep a lookout for future matches!
Man of the match Claude Kayibanda with SoLYD supporter Julian Marsden
SoLYD was once again delighted to provide hospitality in the Eric Morecambe Lounge prior to the game, and was joined by Dale Brunton, the Academy’s Head of Operations.
Dale provided a fascinating insight into all aspects of the Academy, in particular the improvements and upgrades that are taking place, all of which are big steps on the road to obtaining Category 2 status for next season.
Alongside their footballing development, Dale emphasised how important it is for young Hatters to also receive an education that will stand them in good stead whatever the future holds.
The Academy’s coaches are also keen for match days to provide the scholars with an experience that replicates a first team match as far as is possible. On their behalf, Dale was appreciative of the benches for staff and substitutes that have been purchased by SoLYD for use at matches played at the Academy.
The money raised by the evening, almost £1,000, will be used by SoLYD to continue support for the Academy. SoLYD also intends to host further events ahead of U21 and Academy matches at Kenilworth Road this season. Details of that will appear on this site when they are known.
