The LTST board welcomes the news from earlier in the week that the bill for the new football regulator has become law.
LTST was involved right at the beginning of the process when we put together a presentation to Tracey Crouch MP showcasing our concerns for the beautiful game.
We are delighted that the bill has got to this stage and congratulate everyone involved for their hard work in recent years to get it to this point.
Giving his reaction to the news, Trust Chair Paul Stephens said ‘As a football fan I have closely followed the progress of the independent football regulator bill but with LTST’s initial involvement, since I have become Chair it is something which I have had an even keener eye on.’
‘We know all too well from our past the negative impact that certain owners can have on football clubs and sadly that is still visible today with the struggles that Sheffield Wednesday and Morecambe supporters are experiencing. We are fortunate that we have owners who communicate with us and have the future of our club at heart but unfortunately that isn’t the case across the pyramid.’
‘Football fans in this country have seen their voice diminish over time and that needed to be addressed, so I am delighted that the bill is now law and look forward to a regulator being appointed and fans having their voice heard along with the protection for all clubs which will come with it.’
