As you may have seen, the full report of the Fan-led Review of Football Governance chaired by Tracey Crouch MP was published last week.
Luton Town Supporters’ Trust was one of the organisations who delivered a presentation to the review, of which the final document is more than 160 pages long.
While we take the time to go through the full review in detail, we would like to offer our initial response.
Three key points we have picked out are:
Embedded and structured fan engagement at all clubs
This is something we strongly lobbied for and believe is a must for the future of football. Players, staff and officials all come and go at a football club but fans remain a constant and should have a greater involvement in the running of their club.
Protecting the pyramid and stopping any repeat of the ESL
This was another thing we were strongly behind in our presentation. The pyramid is the backbone of the English game and we are delighted to see a written intention to protect it.
A financial structure that is fairer and more responsible and stopping the likelihood of a repetition of what happened to Bury FC
We know only too well with our club the impact the disproportionate amounts of money across the game can have. We are strongly in favour of a fairer financial structure across the board.
We welcome the publication of the full report but would like to stress our desire that everyone pushes for the advised actions within it to take place.
In the few days since the report was released, we have already seen the Premier League rallying against some of the points raised. It is their self-centred views that have contributed to the mess that the game finds itself in and if football is to reform this may be the last chance it gets to do so.
We believe it is imperative that everyone backs this report, and its findings, so that change can happen for the good of the game as a whole and not just a few clubs.
