2016/17 Player of the Season Presentation Evening

Danny Hylton was the big winner at the 2016/17 Player of the Season Presentation Evening at Venue 360 on Sunday. The striker landed four awards on an evening where his excellent season was given plenty of recognition from Trust members and his fellow players alike.

Hylton landed the Player of the Season award as well as the Players’ Player of the Season, the Internet Player of the Season and the Junior Supporters Player of the Season on a tremendous night for the Town’s leading scorer.

Danny was unable to attend the evening due to a clash with the PFA Awards where he was named in the Sky Bet League 2 Team of the Season but manager Nathan Jones and club captain Scott Cuthbert were full of praise for the striker. You can hear their reactions in the video below.

Elsewhere on the evening, there were awards for Stephen O’Donnell, Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu, Scott Cuthbert and James Justin among the playing staff.

O’Donnell was rewarded for his wonderful strike against Yeovil in the first home league game of the season with the Goal of the Season award while his captain was voted the Bobbers Travel Club Away Player of the Season.

Mpanzu landed the coveted Ian Pearce Memorial Trophy award for the second season in a row after six home man of the match gongs over the course of the campaign while Justin was named the Young Player of the Season by Nathan Jones and his coaching staff. Reactions from all the award winners with the exception of the absent Hylton can be seen in this video.

There was one other award presented on the night and it was our own LTST Outstanding Achievement Award. This year’s recipient was our former secretary Steve Townsend. Steve epitomised what LTST is all about with his tireless working behind the scenes and the Trust wouldn’t be what it is today without his efforts. Our gratitude for everything Steve did is recognised with this award.

We were also delighted to hand over a cheque to Autism Bedfordshire for £825 which was raised at our various events across the season. Amy from Autism Bedfordshire was on hand to receive the cheque. Thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to that wonderful total.

The LTST committee would like to thank everyone involved in the putting together of the event and the running of it. Special thanks go to our Social Events Committee including Mark Chapman, Helen Gatward, Colin Adamson, June Adamson, John Pyper as well as Brian and Jan Giddings.

We would also like to thank Simon Pitts for doing a fantastic job of hosting the evening once again, to Venue 360 who were perfect hosts of the event, to the award sponsors without whose donations the evening wouldn’t be possible and to Gareth Owen who captured the evening superbly in photo format. You can see his photos below.

We hope everyone who came enjoyed the evening and hopefully we will all be celebrating again next month having won promotion through the playoffs!
